The overall concept allows residents and those working on the site to enjoy vehicular access to houses and places of work – external movements can be by car, although public transport alternatives will be available.

The town is next to the A70, and only two miles from the M74. It is well located for Central Scotland and Northern England.

Within the town, certain areas will have restricted vehicular access with priority given to the movement of pedestrians and cyclists. Visitor car parking will be provided from the main traffic routes to allow the designation of car free streets in key areas such as the town centre, with time restricted parking.

Car parking will be provided for homes and businesses in convenient locations.
